Middle School Moments

   Welcome to Mrs. Whetstone's Room

Greetings from Mrs. Whetstone

My name is Jamie Whetstone and I am the new Middle School Teacher at Good Shepherd Catholic School.  I have taught students of all ages from Preschool to Middle School, as well as directing private schools in Catholic, public and private school settings.  I am a graduate of Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame as well as completing additional coursework at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  I enjoy teaching all subjects to children, but I am very passionate about mathematics and science instruction.  When I taught in Florida, I was awarded a grant through the National Science Foundation to complete a graduate level science course and work alongside engineers and scientists at the Kennedy Space Center.  In our classroom, we will complete activities that will enable students to become experts in the scientific method, and comfortable and excited about applying their problem solving and engineering skills.  We will also participate in a science fair this school year.

Moreover, this school year we will also be preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  The faith journey toward this Sacrament is a very special time for students and their families alike.  Previously, I have taught religion at two other Catholic Schools, and instructed multiple ages in PSR programs including preparation for First Communion and Confirmation.

My commitment to the overall success of each student will be become apparent to families in many ways.  Here are some of the ways that we will partner together to meet individual and class goals:

1.       Weekly classroom newsletters for families created by the students and teacher

2.      Completed assignment/planner books with guidance from the teacher

3.      Goal setting by the student

4.      Weekly student/teacher informal meetings to “check-in” and visit about goals and meet other individual needs

5.      Genuine and sincere feedback via casual meetings, conferences, phone calls and emails to meet your child’s academic and spiritual needs with all parents/guardians

6.      “Middle School Moments” at least once a month in the school-wide newsletter

Working together, we can help every child achieve academic excellence and become life-long learners.  It is important that children have a myriad of quality classroom experiences that will create the foundation for a resilient, confident and faith-filled learner ready to serve our God and transition into new and exciting challenges.
