School-wide and Subject Area Curriculum Goals of Good Shepherd School

School-Wide Curriculum Goals

  • Students will share their faith through service to others.
  • Students will use technology to access, process, and communicate information.
  • Students will participate in their own learning.
  • Students will show appreciation for diversity.
  • Students will show respect for God and all His creation.
  • Students will show respect for one another.
  • Students will demonstrate skills which enable them to be lifelong learners.
  • Students will effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • Students will actively participate in the life of the Catholic Church.
  • Students will recognize, evaluate and solve problems.
  • Students will demonstrate skills and show appreciation for the fine arts.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to make wise choices concerning health and fitness.

Religion Subject Area Goals

  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the beliefs of the Catholic Church as described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of and participate in the Liturgy and Sacraments of the Catholic Church as described the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Students will live out their faith using the guidelines of morality described in the
    Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of and participate in Catholic prayer as described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of and appreciation for St. Vincent de Paul and his life of prayer and service for God.

Language Arts Subject Area Goals

  • Students will use decoding and phonics skills to read.
  • Students will read and demonstrate an understanding of vocabulary words.
  • Students will demonstrate comprehension of reading materials.
  • Students will explore various examples of literature.
  • Students will demonstrate an ability to write in manuscript and cursive.
  • Students will accurately spell words.
  • Students will demonstrate correct grammar in written and oral communication.
  • Students will communicate ideas through written forms of communication.
  • Students will communicate ideas through oral forms of communication.
  • Students will explore study skills to assist in the use of written and oral language.

Math Subject Area Goals

  • Students will demonstrate number sense in order to compute, compare, estimate, recognize patterns and solve problems.
  • Students will analyze characteristics of geometric shapes.
  • Students will use tools and formulas to determine measurements.
  • Students will represent and analyze mathematical relationships using algebraic symbols and functions.
  • Students will collect and use data to answer questions.

Social Studies Subject Area Goals

  • Students will use maps to demonstrate geographic skills.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of Missouri, American, and World History.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the United States Government.
  • Students will analyze community features and relationships.
  • Students will examine other cultures.
  • Students will use reference materials to obtain and analyze information.

Science Subject Area Goals

  • Students will use scientific inquiry to analyze various scientific principles.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of physical science.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of life science.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of earth and space science.
  • Students will implement technology in the scientific field of study.
  • Students will accurately collect, record and interpret data.
  • Students will recognize and utilize the personal, social and environmental perspectives of science.
  • Students will explore the human and historical aspects of scientific endeavors.

Art Subject Area Goals

  • Students will utilize appropriate skills and techniques in the use of various media.
  • Students will use art to communicate ideas.
  • Students will create art projects incorporating appropriate techniques, skills and creativity.
  • Students will use visual art to express themselves.
  • Students will incorporate visual art into other subject areas.

Music Subject Area Goals

  • Students will identify musical instruments.
  • Students will read and perform musical notation.
  • Students will perform various vocal music.
  • Students will perform using classroom instruments.
  • Students will incorporate music into other subject areas.
  • Students will identify periods of musical history, styles of music, music from other cultures and uses for music.

Physical Education Subject Area Goals

  • Students will develop good motor skill patterns by exploring basic movement skills.
  • Students will demonstrate competence and safety in a variety of fundamental skills and activities in groups or with a partner.
  • Students will perform selected locomotion, non-locomotion, and manipulative skills.
  • Students will develop concepts, rules and basic strategies of games and physical activities.
  • Students will develop fundamental skills that will allow them to participate in games and physical activities.
  • Students will demonstrate competence in rhythm activities.
  • Students will describe the relationship of proper nutrition, exercise and health care.

Technology Subject Area Goals

  • Students will use technology to research various topics.
  • Students will develop keyboarding skills using proper finger position.
  • Students will use technology to practice skills from other subject areas.
  • Students will use technology to communicate ideas.
